Diclaimer: This content was not edited by the German Council on Foreign relations (DGAP).

This publication by Eka Tkeshelashvili, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Zaza Bibilashvili, the Chairman of the Chavchavadze Center for European Studies and Civic Education, takes stock of Georgia's engagement with the West amid its democratic backsliding. It argues that helping Georgians reclaim their democracy is part of shaping the future of the transatlantic community and will determine whether democratic alliances can recognise internal decay early, correct course before capture becomes irreversible, and align strategic ambition with democratic reality.
